Smallpdf alternative
A Smallpdf alternative for getting PDFs ready to share
Before a document leaves your organization, make it lighter, free of extra data and protected, on our own EU servers and without passing through third parties.
Compressing a PDF so it fits in an email, or converting it just before sending, are quick steps we take without thinking. Yet that is usually the PDF that leaves your organization: a report for a client, paperwork for a court, a file for a supplier. This Smallpdf alternative is designed for exactly that moment, when what matters is not only the file size but what travels inside it.
A PDF can carry more than meets the eye: the author’s name in the metadata, annexes the recipient doesn’t need, or personal data in the text itself. With Anonimatum you remove metadata and pages, extract only what is needed, compress, and add a watermark or a password. And if the text contains personal data, you anonymize or pseudonymize it without switching platforms.
Everything happens on Anonimatum’s own servers in the EU, with no third-party services or external APIs, and the document is not kept after processing. If you are sharing a public brochure, a general-purpose online service may be enough; review its terms. When the document holds data about clients, patients or employees, it makes sense for its preparation to stay under your organization’s control.
From internal document to a PDF ready to send
- 1
Cut what isn’t needed
Delete pages, or extract only the ones you need, by marking them on the thumbnails.
- 2
Clean up and anonymize
Remove the author, title and other metadata and, if the text contains personal data, run it through the anonymizer.
- 3
Fine-tune and protect
Compress the PDF for email, add a text watermark or an opening password, and download it.
Security
Your PDFs never leave our servers in the EU
The same safeguards as the anonymizer, also for merging, converting or compressing.
Our own servers in the EU
Every tool runs on Anonimatum servers in France and Poland (OVHcloud). No third-party services or APIs: LibreOffice and OCR run on our own server.
We don’t keep the document
The PDF is processed in memory and returned straight away. Conversions use a temporary folder that is deleted when they finish.
History under your control
Group activity (operation and file name) is deleted according to the retention your administrator sets, from 1 to 365 days. The audit log only keeps the SHA-256 fingerprint.
Access with your account
You sign in with your Anonimatum account, with two-step verification, and each use is deducted from your plan’s PDF tools quota.
ENS Medium category
Politeia Soft is certified under Spain’s National Security Framework (ENS), Medium category, and the platform is designed for the GDPR.
Next to the anonymizer
Merge, reorder or convert, then anonymize or pseudonymize the result on the same platform before sharing it.
Tools for sharing with less risk
- Remove metadata: title, author and other properties
- Delete or extract pages by marking them on thumbnails
- Compress by optimizing images without losing the text
- Text watermark and opening password

Our own servers on OVHcloud (France and Poland), with no external APIs.

FAQ about this Smallpdf alternative
Is Anonimatum connected to Smallpdf?
No. Smallpdf is a trademark of its owner and we mention it for reference only. This page only describes how Anonimatum works; if you are considering another service, please review its own terms of use and privacy policy.
Is a copy of my PDF kept?
No. The file is processed in memory and returned immediately; conversions use a temporary folder that is wiped when they finish. The group history records the operation and file name, and the audit log keeps a SHA-256 fingerprint, never the content.
Which servers process it?
Anonimatum’s own servers in the EU, hosted by OVHcloud (France and Poland). No third-party services or external APIs are used. Politeia Soft holds ENS category MEDIUM certification.
Do I need to sign up?
Yes. The PDF tools require an Anonimatum account, with two-step verification available, and each use counts against your plan’s PDF tools quota.
Can I remove the password from a PDF someone sent me?
Yes, if you know the password: Unlock PDF removes it so you can work with the document. It cannot recover passwords you don’t know.
Share only what should leave
