Compress PDFs without sending them outside the EU
Make PDFs lighter by optimizing their images while the text stays intact, on Anonimatum's own servers and with no third-party services involved.
Oversized PDFs cause trouble at the worst moments: an e-filing portal rejects an attachment for exceeding its size limit, an email bounces because of a huge file, or a scanned case file takes ages to open on a colleague's laptop. Compress PDF reduces file size by optimizing the images in the document while keeping the text, so you can submit, send or archive it without recreating it from scratch.
The heaviest PDFs tend to be the most sensitive ones: scanned ID cards, payslips, medical reports, hand-signed contracts. Dropping them into any online compressor to save a few megabytes means handing that content to a third party whose terms you would need to check first. With Anonimatum, the file is processed in memory on our own EU servers and is not stored once you have it back.
Compress PDF sits in the PDF tools menu of the same App you use to anonymize or pseudonymize documents. A typical workflow: merge the annexes of a case file, compress the result to meet an upload limit, then anonymize the details that must not leave your organization. All of it under your organization's account, with two-step verification available, on a platform from Politeia Soft, which holds ENS Medium category certification.
How to compress a PDF
- 1
Open PDF tools
Sign in to the Anonimatum App and choose Compress PDF from the PDF tools menu.
- 2
Upload your file
It is processed in memory on our EU servers: images are optimized and the text is preserved.
- 3
Download the result
Your compressed PDF comes back straight away. The platform does not store the document.
Security
Your PDFs never leave our servers in the EU
The same safeguards as the anonymizer, also for merging, converting or compressing.
Our own servers in the EU
Every tool runs on Anonimatum servers in France and Poland (OVHcloud). No third-party services or APIs: LibreOffice and OCR run on our own server.
We don’t keep the document
The PDF is processed in memory and returned straight away. Conversions use a temporary folder that is deleted when they finish.
History under your control
Group activity (operation and file name) is deleted according to the retention your administrator sets, from 1 to 365 days. The audit log only keeps the SHA-256 fingerprint.
Access with your account
You sign in with your Anonimatum account, with two-step verification, and each use is deducted from your plan’s PDF tools quota.
ENS Medium category
Politeia Soft is certified under Spain’s National Security Framework (ENS), Medium category, and the platform is designed for the GDPR.
Next to the anonymizer
Merge, reorder or convert, then anonymize or pseudonymize the result on the same platform before sharing it.
What you get
- Smaller files through image optimization, with the text preserved

Compress, then anonymize
Lighten the document and then hide personal data before sharing it.
Compress PDF: frequently asked questions
Will compression affect the text?
No. Compression works on the images inside the PDF and the text is kept. If the text was selectable before, it still will be.
How much smaller will my file get?
It depends on the content. Scans and image-heavy PDFs usually shrink the most; a PDF that is mostly text has less room to reduce.
Where is my PDF processed, and what is kept?
On Anonimatum's own EU servers (OVHcloud, France and Poland), with no third parties. The file is handled in memory and not stored; the group history logs the operation and file name, and the audit log keeps only a SHA-256 fingerprint.
Do I need an account? Is it free?
You need an Anonimatum account, with two-step verification available. Each compression counts towards your plan's PDF tools quota.
Can I anonymize the PDF afterwards?
Yes. Compress it, then anonymize or pseudonymize it on the same platform before you share it.
